Touring Program

TourExperiments in Cinema chooses a variety of venues to stage our event that are known to attract diverse audiences (The Kimo Theater, 516 Arts, The Southwest Film Center, The Cervantes Institute/National Hispanic Cultural Center, The Guild Cinema). All of our events are free of charge except for screenings at the Southwest Film Center, and the Guild Cinema, and the venues we use for our screenings and workshops are handicap accessible.

As a result of the enthusiastic responses we have received in the past, we will continue outreach efforts around the state to attract a growing number of attendees/participants in order to nurture an awareness of the history(s) of experimental cinema and it’s relationship to the history of filmmaking in New Mexico.

Our outreach efforts garner new participants for our Albuquerque-based festival. These statewide outreach activities are always free to any organization that wishes to host us. To date we have visited schools and organizations that include the YDI Mi Voz after-school program, The Public Academy for Performing Arts, The Media Arts Collaborative Charter High School, Amy Biehl Charter High School, Belen High School, UNM Valencia Campus, Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, The Albuquerque Academy, New Mexico Highlands University, Laguna Acoma High School, Riudoso High School, Taos Community Center, and Expo New Mexico at the African American Performing Arts Center.

Note that the “fruits” of these outreach efforts are seen in our regional, Youth Film Screening program presented each year at the Kimo Theater as part of Experiments in Cinema (sponsored by the Albuquerque Film Office).

Outreach and inclusion are our organization’s biggest priority both in terms of what we have accomplished and recognizing what might still be done. In addition to our in-state activities, we are proud to have been invited to present our festival programming at additional venues including that Artists’ Television Access in San Francisco, The Ann Arbor Film Festival, The University of Windsor (Ontario), The University of Applied Sciences (Wurzburg, Germany), The Millennium Film Workshop (New York City), and the Smolny Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia.
